American Film Market - Los Angeles
Posted 11/5/2009 8:00:00 PM
It seems fitting that our inaugural blog post is from Los Angeles while visiting the American Film Market.  This event is billed as the "the place where deals get done and films are bought and sold."  Like Cannes, it is one of the premiere events in filmmkaing.  Dozens and dozens of film distributors exhibit to buy and sell films.  Filmmakers look for funding and distribution for their projects.

The event is held at the Loew's Hotel, and within minutes of arriving, Michael ran into an online community friend from Germany that he had never actually met before but recognized from a picture!

We spent a few hours walking through the exhibits and suites meeting people.  It is impossible to absorb all the information that is available in one afternoon, so we each collected pounds of literature to review afterwards.

SANDSTORM has achieved theatrical release in the United States and will be distributed on DVD via Amazon.com in the coming weeks.  However, we are researching the possibility for international distribution of the film as our goal is for the film's message to be seen and heard by as many people as possible.

While in Los Angeles, Michael also participated in a photo shoot on Santa Monica beach and met with a journalist from Entrevision - Palm Desert who is doing a story on SANDSTORM.  The journalist drove 2.5 hours each way to take some photos to complement her story which will be posted on a website in Spanish - she is a lot of fun and quite a capable and knowledgeable writer!

We also had a chance to meet one evening over dinner with our friend and producer Dea to discuss some scripts for our next project, and I ate the biggest meatball you've ever seen.

Long journey home from LA tomorrow....
