Oscar Parties

Film festival groups are getting smart by holding fundraisers around Oscar Parties.   This is a clever and fun way to engage a film-loving community.  Naples held its first Film Festival in 2009 and one of the feature films of the festival -  "The Cove" - has been nominated for Best Documentary, so there  seems to be some vested interest by the locals in rooting for the home team on March 7th.  I plan to attend to meet some new friends in the film community....

Preparing the Sandstorm DVD

Posted 11/19/2009 11:30:00 PM
We are in the final stages of completing all the files needed to master the SANDSTORM DVD.   This is actually a complex process as the film was updated for the theatrical release which means all the subtitles need to be altered to fit the new version across 4 languages.  This is a huge, detailed task for the technical producers.  Director Michael Mahonen has also been working with one of the actors in the film to subtitle the Director's Interview in Chinese.  SANDSTORM carries an important message, hence subtitles become vital for a global release.  In discussions with our DVD manufacturer, it appears economically feasible to create both an NTSC version of the DVD for North American audiences as well as a PAL format for European audiences - this is an exciting development as we know we have many friends from around the world who would like to be able to view the film.

An admin day...

There is administrative work asociated with every enterprise, and Requisite Films is no different.  Like most film companies, we have several projects going on at the same time, so it's imperative that we keep our record-keeping straight.  Today we will comb through our accounting and organize a large pile of newspaper clippings, receipts, reviews, electronic files, marketing materials, etc..

The incentive is to complete this task before the Colts vs. Patriots game which most of America will watch tonight... :)

Naples International Film Festival

Requisite Films supported the first Naples International Film Festival held November 5 - 8 in beautiful Southwest Florida.  Thousands of people flocked to sold out theatres in the area supporting the event all weekend.  Center stage was the new Argentinian-owned upscale Silverspot theatre that has reserved seating in large leather seats that remind you of First Class and hardwood floors.  During non-festival days, patrons of Sliverspot willingly pay $5 more a ticket to enjoy a different kind of theatre experience which can include having a full dinner while watching the film.

The inspiration of 3 locally-based men, the festival has to have been considered a success with over 1,100 people attending the opening night red carpet gala held at the Naples Philharmonic Center.  Oscar-contender "The Cove" enjoyed its second largest screening worldwide that evening.

So we have discovered a little bit of Hollywood right down the street from Requisite Films headquarters!

American Film Market - Los Angeles

Posted 11/5/2009 8:00:00 PM
It seems fitting that our inaugural blog post is from Los Angeles while visiting the American Film Market.  This event is billed as the "the place where deals get done and films are bought and sold."  Like Cannes, it is one of the premiere events in filmmkaing.  Dozens and dozens of film distributors exhibit to buy and sell films.  Filmmakers look for funding and distribution for their projects.

The event is held at the Loew's Hotel, and within minutes of arriving, Michael ran into an online community friend from Germany that he had never actually met before but recognized from a picture!

We spent a few hours walking through the exhibits and suites meeting people.  It is impossible to absorb all the information that is available in one afternoon, so we each collected pounds of literature to review afterwards.

SANDSTORM has achieved theatrical release in the United States and ...
